US officials held a news conference to address the recent case of Carly Russell, a woman who went missing and later returned home. During the conference, they provided details of the investigation and Carly's statements, shedding light on the incident that took place during the 49 hours she was missing.

Carly called a relative after speaking with the 911 operator and went missing during that conversation. Traffic camera footage was obtained and analyzed as part of the investigation, along with the 911 call and cell phone data, to determine the timeframe. Despite numerous vehicles passing through the area, Carly's call remained the only report of a child on the interstate. However, no one else reported a missing child.

The police department could not locate any evidence of a child walking down the interstate. Carly's phone data showed she traveled approximately 600 yards in her vehicle while on the phone with 911, stating that she was following a child. The police found Carly's wig and cell phone near her vehicle, but some items, including those she purchased, were missing.

Multiple search efforts, involving police, local and federal agencies, and private citizens, yielded no evidence or trace of the alleged kidnapper and baby Carly claimed to have seen. However, surveillance footage showed Carly walking alone before returning home on foot. She provided a statement to detectives, claiming to have been kidnapped, but some aspects of her statement were unable to be verified.

Detectives are still analyzing data from Carly's cell phone, which includes internet searches related to an Amber Alert and ways to take money from a register without getting caught. The family has not been cooperative in granting interviews, stating Carly's current mental state due to the trauma of the incident.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities aim to determine the truth behind the case. The police department assures the public that there is no immediate threat to public safety related to this particular case.

The investigation continues, and the police are awaiting the opportunity to interview Carly again for more detailed information. They are determined to uncover the facts behind the incident and ensure justice prevails.
