Russia's strategy on the Black Sea has come under scrutiny as tensions rise with NATO forces. Rear Admiral Dr. Chris Parry, a strategic advisor and commentator with 36 years in the Royal Navy, warns that Russia may be desperate enough to take on NATO forces but is likely to do so in ambiguous and deniable circumstances.

During an interview with Frontline for Times Radio, Rear Admiral Dr. Chris Parry discussed the challenges Russia faces on the Black Sea. He noted that Russia has been closely monitoring NATO aircraft in the region and attempting to down NATO surveillance drones. However, he questioned whether Russia would dare to confront NATO forces directly in the air or at sea. The withdrawal of the grain deal between Russia and Ukraine has raised concerns about food security, given that Ukraine produces around 10 percent of the world's wheat and maize. Admiral Parry suggested the establishment of a humanitarian corridor on the western side of the Black Sea to ensure safe passage for food exports.

Admiral Parry expressed concerns about the changing nature of warfare, with drones and microprocessing revolutionizing the battlefield. He emphasized that the democratization of violence, where individuals can wield significant destructive power, poses challenges for states and sub-state actors alike.
