Passengers at London Waterloo react to the 5.9% increase in fares
And what's your reaction to the average 5.9% increase in fares today in England and Wales? Well I mean obviously everyone's cost has gone up, the electricity to run the railway and everything else but prices were very very high compared to the rest of Europe anyway. So it does cut a little bit because we've all got changes at the moment. It's not really happy to hear it kind of increasing like that. Yeah I think it's tough times we're living in and considering how much we depend on public transport these days it's not going to be well received I think by many to hear that it's increasing. Considering the current state of the trains as well, this mix with the price increase is probably going to be met with some resistance I would say. It's amazing, it just keeps going all the time you know.
It's so difficult to live in London, so expensive right now. Because people are struggling already, so even most people now they can't avoid trains, they have to take buses and so on and so forth. But I think the thing is at the moment is obviously the trains are half empty during the day in very very over packed during commuting hours so hopefully it will promote more businesses to support flexible working hours if they're not already supporting at home working. I mean I think certainly for me I'd expect my employer to take it into consideration. I don't currently get my travel expenses, expenses by my current employer so for me I think that's the next step for workers to be able to contribute a little bit more. To have the flexibility to work from home, especially with the current situation of the energy kind of prices as well going up. It's a lot for us to take in.
Thank you.
