'Not a classic - but job done': Lewis Cox & Jonny Drury on West Brom's 1-0 win over Wigan

Hello Baggies fans, welcome to ExpressandStart.com. I'm here at very cold Hawthorns. I forgot my coat coming back outside. So we'll keep this as brief as we can. We have got a Baggies broadcast for you tomorrow, so we'll talk all about tonight's game then. Not a massive amount of talk about it.

Really, I'll be the one one nailing H-Wigging. Daryl DK on the score sheet again. The easiest goal, he'll score all season. Coxie, just a case of getting, get the job done. Go home, get in front of the fire. Essentially, well survived. 30 seconds job done.

Yeah, strange evening really, but as you rightly said Johnny, ultimately three points. Let's move on. Won't be won for the animals, won't be won for the DVDs or the history books, but however, we must remember this is a historic run of home form, isn't it? I mean, you know, maybe not best in the club's history exactly specifically, but Christ, nine wins from ten in a draw. Think all in all, it's eleven at home under Carlos, one defeat, one draw, nine wins, conceded three. Yeah, unbelievable. Mad. Really.

Crazily good and the only reason Alvin is still in the playoff chase as we know, let's be honest, because it's so bad a way such as the contrast, but yeah, job done. It felt a very, I've been saying all night, felt a very low key evening, didn't it? It felt quite empty here. Kind of get it, you know, it was such a sort of chasing in night at all last time out and sort of disheartening, dispiriting in terms of the playoff push. Maybe inspired less fans to come tonight. I was freezing as well, isn't it? Let's be honest. The prospect of the, the Junction one Motway push pre-matches. It apparently wasn't too bad tonight.

Well, well good, but you know, Wigan don't, you know, or respect to them don't travel with many do they? So not much in terms of an away end. And it, it wasn't a thriller, was it? Let's be honest, but I thought Alvin, second half of the first half were good and deserve their lead, could have scored more, could have put it to bed. In fact, we were speaking in there just now, the press lounge about how Alvin hit the woodwork four times tonight, as well as they call, which, you know, suggests dominance, doesn't it? And certainly says they should have put the games to bed before they did. A little bit hairy towards the, towards the end, you know, a couple of Wigan moments, but nothing much where they, you know, limited Wigan side. You could see why they're, why they're struggling, maybe, but Alvin got the job done. Carlos Corbran in there. It's just sort of talked up his side's mentality to grind it out really.

A lot of sort of, I don't think there any Alvin fans bouncing and boinging after tonight as, however, being a game in hand, I can't escape the fact it feels like a low key, under the radar key victory really. I mean, dropping points tonight would have, you know, further damaged this, this playoff push, whatever we want to call it. It's been cut to four points tonight. We've got second bottom, you know, Wigan bottom of the table now. We've got second bottom coming in here on Saturday, where, you know, Alvin are pretty flawless here. Yes, the away form needs to change. We all know, but just about kept on the coattails and kept themselves into them in the fight, in the battle tonight.

You know, most importantly. Yeah, it was low key on a pitch. It was low key in the stands as well. The atmosphere wasn't great. And we're going to talk about that. We've got a few questions about that have come in. We'll discuss that on tomorrow's base broadcast.

I'm going to finish this video by talking about Darryl DK. He hasn't scored bucket loads of goals and he's had a little bit of criticism in recent weeks. I just over here in the press conference, then, you know, he scored winners. He scored winners at Sunderland. He scored winners against Reading. I think there's a couple more in there. He scored the winner again tonight.

The goals he scores are important and he is getting better. I think he could have had at least one more tonight. I mean, how many, since that return from injury in November, how many points have his goals been worth? I think that's the six goals all told four winners. So that's 12 points and then other goals have come. I'm going to fail to remember this now. Loot in a way and there's one other in wins. Not the winner, but in wins.

The other one's going to come to me. But yeah, certainly the winners and certainly the first goals in games, they are the key goals. If he's scoring the third in a three-nil win or the fourth in a four-one or something, they're easier goals to score, less pressure on the game, less sort of tightness in front of goal, edginess in the crowd, all of this. Winners, of course, are big goals in the context of how they're in season, what they're trying to achieve and he's doing them. Yes, Thomas, of course, might have done them in his place, but at the moment he's injured and he's been suspended. So, D.K.

has had to step up. That's six goals. I think it's 11 league starts, so that's not too shabby at all, is it? When, yes, a few appearances from the bench, but yeah, I agree with you. I thought he was maybe struggled at a whole lot on Friday night and I think much of the team did in parts. However, I thought he was lively tonight and really built on the previous home game against Borough where he got the double, of course, and he'll be eyeing another one, at least only here on Saturday, and another huge home game. So, I'm pleased for him. We must mention he's got three 90 minutes tonight.

That's back-to-back 90 minutes Friday to Tuesday. First time? Yeah, Corbyn was just talking on that there. We'll be writing that up soon and there's no escaping. That's a big thing given he's got the best part of 12 months out injured. Just a couple of weeks ago, he wouldn't have done that. He wouldn't have got through two 90 minutes. The head coach wouldn't have even tried it, but now they've got the confidence in him to do it and he's got the sort of belief in mentality and confidence within himself to do it.

And yeah, key point that, I think, because Thomas de Santé is close. We gather. How close? Not quite sure. Whether it's for Saturday, not quite sure. D.K. is very much needed.

He's certainly needed indeed. We've had some famous celebrations down at the Hawthorns over the years, but this one is going to be coming a lot more famous. We'll have to quiz Dalby, OK, on what it's all about. We'll have the same effect with glasses, does it? No, it doesn't. That's why I took them off. You can see then. But we don't care what he does after he scores.

We don't go out, we score as if from two hours tonight. He scores another 10 like that between now and the end of the season. Albion fans will not care. Final score here at a bitterly cold Hawthorns. Albion won Wigan Nill. Rest of Reaction Express The Star.com.

Tune in to the Baggies broadcast tomorrow if you want to ask Coxsey a question. Get in touch on Twitter and we'll read it out on the podcast. See you then.
